The present article attempts to point out a promising model of emotional
intelligence and its measure for identifying usefulness in clinical psychology
research and practice. The place of emotional intelligence in clinical psychology
is examined in relation to existing concepts, that is, alexithymia, neuroticism,
general mental ability, social intelligence, and empathy. The psychometric status
of emotional intelligence test is also discussed across the Western and Eastern
cultures. Finally, it is concluded that it makes sense to talk about ability model
of emotional intelligence in clinical psychology in the Western culture and it is
believed that the ability model is a promising candidate in the Eastern culture
too
