Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites. Although Facebook is used
to connect and stay in touch with friends, there may be situations where an individual
uses the site way too much. Relatively little research has been carried out to explain
facebook addiction in India. Objectives: The objectives of the study was to find out
the prevalence of Facebook addiction among the Nursing students and to describe the
associated factors, effect of facebook addiction and to establish the relationship between
facebook addiction and self-esteem. Samples and Methods: This study was conducted
in a nursing college in Kanchipuram using convenient sampling from May 2016 to June
- About 108 nursing students had enrolled for the study. Results: The prevalence
of addiction was 1.9% and high-risk behavior was 19.6% in the study subjects. 13.6%
of the subjects with facebook addiction and high-risk behavior had lower self-esteem.
Conclusion: The prevalence of facebook addiction and high-risk behavior was found in
1.9% and 19.6% of the study subjects. Those having A/HRB were found to have more
of physical and mental health problems. No significant association was found between
facebook addiction and low self esteem
