Childhood abuse often leads to various kinds of problem behaviour in victims during
adolescence. Present investigation aimed to study the effectiveness of technical
eclecticism in reducing the problem behaviour of adolescents abused during childhood.
80 adolescents (aged 15 – 18 years) from various areas of Punjab (India) were identified
for the type of childhood abuse experienced, through Childhood Trauma Questionnaire
(Bernstein & Fink, 1998). To get an estimate of problem behaviour in these adolescents
their scores on Youth Self Report (Achenbach & Rescorla, 2001) were obtained. Every
adolescent was provided his/her profile-specific therapy. After intervention period was
over, each subject was re-evaluated on Youth Self Report. The significant differences
between pre- and post-intervention scores were accounted to check the effectiveness
of technical eclecticism. The study stresses that instead of providing the same treatment
to all the clients finding a best option for a specific client can be an effective approach
for mental health practitioners.
