The present research was aimed to study emotional intelligence (EI) as a predictor of
negative career thoughts (NCT) among postgraduate unemployed adults. The sample
comprised 300 job seeking postgraduate non-student adults (166 men and 134 women).
The age of sample ranged from 25 to 35 years (M = 28.16, SD = 3.61). Multiple regression
analysis demonstrated EI as signifi cant predictor of NCT. Self-emotional appraisal and
utilization of emotions were components of EI which accounted for most of the variance
for NCT sub constructs. Signifi cant gender differences were also found on EI and NCT
