The purpose of this study is to summarize the previous research that has been
accumulated to date, and to provide an overview of the history and trends of psychology
and the psychological profession in Japan. The results of this study revealed that the
Japanese psychology profession has a short history. In addition, it has become clear
that by deepening research on case studies for the development of supervisors and
multidisciplinary collaboration, it is possible for them to fulfill the roles expected of
clinical psychologists and certified psychologists. Additionally, since the history of
psychology in Japan is short, comparative research in other countries is also necessary
